Daniel H. Johnson is a former assistant district attorney in Wake County, North Carolina and a US Navy veteran who received a Navy Medal and Marine Corps to save the lives of crew on the USS Blue Ridge > in 1999. As a result of the incident, Johnson's legs were amputated below the knee.

In 2007, Johnson resigned as Wake County prosecutor, moved back to Hickory's hometown, and announced that he would run for election to the United States House of Representatives in the 10th congressional district of North Carolina. He lost to Representative Patrick McHenry on November 4, 2008. In 2009, he opened a solo criminal defense practice in Raleigh. He then formed a new company, Willis, Johnson and Nelson.

After graduating from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Johnson began his service as an officer in the United States Navy. On August 23, 1999, while serving on US ships. Blue Ridge near South Korea, Johnson risked his own life to save fellow soldiers. Both survived, but Johnson lost both legs below the knee. For his courage, Johnson received a Navy Medal and Marine Corps, the second highest peace medal for heroism.

Initial career

After recovering from his injuries, Johnson worked on Capitol Hill for US Senator Max Cleland of Georgia. Johnson was enrolled in law school at UNC, where he met his wife, Creecy. He started his legal career as a prosecutor in Wake County, North Carolina, and quickly worked up from dealing with DWI's persecution cases to crime assignments, including drug trafficking, robbery and murder.

In 2007-2008, Johnson was a lawyer in Sigmon, Clark, Mackie, Hutton, Hanvey & amp; Ferrell, P.A. in his hometown of Hickory. He and his wife were members of Hickory's First Presbyterian Church, where his father had been a senior minister for eighteen years. Daniel and Creecy's daughter, Bowen, was born in 2008.

Campaign congress

Daniel Johnson announced at the end of 2007 that he was running for Congress, and was able to raise over $ 123,000 in campaign funds during the fourth quarter of 2007, a so-called Hickory Daily Record "competitive."

Johnson won the Democratic primary election on May 6, 2008 with about 60 percent of the vote.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee added Johnson to the "Red to Blue" program in September 2008, showing confidence that Johnson has the momentum and can win in November.

The Hickory Daily Record supported Johnson on October 31, writing, "We need independent-minded candidates who will not be guided by their own political aspirations."
