Harvey Robert Levin (born September 2, 1950) is a television producer, lawyer, legal analyst, and celebrity reporter for America. He is the founder of the celebrity news website TMZ and also the OBJECTified host, which airs on Fox News Channel.

Early life and education

Levin was born September 2, 1950, in Los Angeles County, California to Jewish families. He attended secondary school at Grover Cleveland High School in Reseda, Los Angeles and graduated in 1968 with honors. Levin attended the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he graduated with a B.A. in political science in 1972. He then attended the Law Faculty of the University of Chicago and graduated with a J.D. in 1975.

Careers

Early legal career and academy

Levin was an active lawyer in the state of California from December 18, 1975, to January 1, 1996. In the mid-70s, Levin taught law at the University of Law College of Miami under Soia Mentschikoff. She practiced in Los Angeles before returning to teach at Whittier College School of Law.

The introduction and debate surrounding California Proposition 13 in 1978 pushed Levin into the public eye after his performance in a number of public debates. With his newfound fame, he began contributing legal advice on radio shows where he was nicknamed "Doctor of Law", as well as writing columns for the Los Angeles Times. His columnist career with Times spanned seven years.

Transition to entertainment

Levin's first television work was for KNBC-TV based in Los Angeles in 1982 where he covered legal issues. He then joined KCBS-TV and spent a decade investigating reporting and legal analysis at the station. Her television career rose from her coverage of the murder of O. J. Simpson where she regularly used the camera.

He also worked at The People's Court after impressing a crew member with his legal analysis. In March 1997, he named the executive producer and the event's legal marker from the consultant. Also, Carol Martin was named anchor. He has worked at The People's Court in some capacity for 25 years. With his rapidly growing entertainment career, Levin deactivated his bar registration in 1996. He later created Celebrity Justice, which runs from 2002 to 2005.

TMZ

In 2005, AOL and Telepictures Productions launched TMZ with Levin as founder and editor manager. The website quickly became famous when it broke the story of Mel Gibson's DUI capture and subsequent antisemitic words. It will then break the news of a number of high profile celebrity stories including Rihanna abuse by Chris Brown, the death of Heath Ledger, Brittany Murphy, and Michael Jackson. The Los Angeles Times called TMZ coverage of Jackson's death as the biggest story covered by the website to date.

Levin met with President Donald Trump on March 7, 2017 in the Oval Office and chatted for an hour. Levin "just really likes a strong man, and he really likes to have a strong friend, and who is better than the President of the United States? I think he's just blinded by the fact that the President called him on the phone I think he just thought that's very cool, "said a former staff member to ThinkProgress.

More business

In 1985 Levin wrote the People's Court: How to Tell Judge, a book reviewing and commenting on some of the cases that appear in the People's Court program. The Library Journal says they "recommend [the book] for public libraries."

Harvey Levin Productions, a company that produces TMZ and other Levin media projects, was created in 1983 after Levin joined The i The People's Court . In addition to creating Celebrity Justice, Harvey Levin Productions produced Beyond Twisted, which aired in 2009 for a season before being canceled.

Another creation, Famous at 12 , is a 2014 experiment at The CW about exploiting families for fame. Like Beyond Twisted , Famous in 12 was canceled after one season with only five of the twelve episodes scheduled to air.

Levin is also the host of Fox News' OBJECTified. In November 2016, the first episode of OBJECTified was aired on Fox News Channel. Levin interviewed Donald Trump, the episode was recorded before the election victory of Trump. In September 2017, Fox News took this series. The show officially began airing weekly with Levin continuing his role as host. It currently airs every Sunday at 20:00 Eastern time. Every episode has been recorded.

Personal life

Levin appeared as an event speaker for the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association in April 2010 in which he publicly affirmed his identification as gay. He discusses his fears of losing his career if anyone finds out, which causes Levin to decipher his personal and professional life.

Levin's old partner is Andy Mauer, a Southern California chiropractor. Both have many properties together, sharing a list of deeds together since the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Levin was named the "Power 50" magazine Out as one of the most influential votes on LGBT America since 2012 when he was named # 15. Since then he was named # 25 in 2013, # 34 in 2014, # 48 in 2015, and # 40 in 2016.
