Indiana State Police is a law enforcement agency in the US state for the state of Indiana. Indiana is the 12th country that offers protection to its citizens with the strength of the state police.

Its headquarters are located at the North Indiana Government Center in Indianapolis.

History

On July 15, 1921, the Indiana legislature created 16 Indiana Police Vehicles became the first law enforcement agencies in the state to have state jurisdiction to enforce traffic laws, even though they were only "limited" authorities and only authorized to enforce "road rules" and motor vehicle legislation. In 1933, the Indiana State Police was formed largely of the untrained and non-trained traffic officers left over from the Motor Vehicle Police. The first formal academy began on July 15, 1935, and consisted of between 80 and 100 candidates. It was not until 1976 that the academy passed the first female army.

The Indiana State Police Board manages, manages, and controls agency operations including salary and compensation arrangements, with the approval of the governor and may review the disciplinary action taken against state police employees by supervisors. The ISP Council consists of six civilian members appointed by the governor and must be a permanent resident of one of the six geographical regions of the country in which they are appointed. Members serve with staggered, four-year terms and no more than three may belong to the same political party.

Organization

The Indiana State Police is currently headed by Inspector Douglas G. Carter, whose position is appointed by the governor. His command staff included assistant inspectors who held the rank of colonel and four deputy chiefs, each holding the rank of lieutenant colonel who manages four main areas of responsibility:

  • Financial Management including the Fiscal Division and the Logistics Division.
  • Support Services including Criminal Justice Data Division, Laboratory Division, Notes Division and Public Information Office.
  • Investigations including the Office of Professional Standards, Training Division and Criminal Investigation Division.
  • Enforcement includes the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division, Division of Operations Support and Human Resources Division.
    • State-of-state enforcement operations are the responsibility of the northern zone and the commander of the southern zone, which is further composed of five separate areas, each commanded by a captain. These areas are divided into 14 districts, covering four to 11 districts each and ordered by a lieutenant.

Ranking structure

The agency ranking structure is as follows (from highest to lowest):

Teams with 10 and 15 years of service are referred to as Senior Teams and Major Teams, which result in salary increases, but are not considered to be ratings.

Beginning in July 2015, the starting salary for troops was $ 40,902 after the completion of a one-year probation period, while the salary for a colonel with 20 years of service was $ 90,781.

Planes

In 1948, Indiana State Police bought Navion planes. The aircraft continued to be used throughout the 1950s and the Flight Section continued to grow after the helicopters were introduced to the air fleet. Today, the Indiana State Police have three permanent wing aircraft, two helicopters and six pilots used for law enforcement across the state run by the Aviation Section of the Operations Support Division. According to FAA records, the aircraft currently listed in the agency include Cessna 172N N91SP, Cessna 172P N193SP and Raytheon B200 N264SP. The listed chopper currently includes the Bell 206B N95SP and Bell 206L-3 N54SP.

On May 22, 2018, an Indiana State University graduate, Sergeant Edward Aaron Kaucher, was named the Indiana Police Police and will be responsible for planning and directing the maintenance of the department's aircraft and ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the aircraft department. He will conduct transport flights for state and department personnel, will assist other agencies with air support as needed, and conduct regular flight patrols.

In 2006, about 50 Glock.40 S & amp; W pistols issued to state troops identified as defective, malfunctioning. The gun was replaced with a Glock 17 9mm, which worked perfectly.

Indiana State Police chose SIGM400 rifles for its SWAT in 2012, and selected the SIG Sauer P227 as its duty gun in 2014.

The clerk crashed

In the history of the Indiana State Police, 43 police and three civilian employees were killed in their duties. The agency honors its personnel who have given the ultimate sacrifice on its own warning consisting of a perpetual flame and three granite tablets that read their name on a site located on the eastern side of Indianapolis, not far from Post Road on Interstate 70. Their troops are also respected in Indiana law enforcement and Fire Fighters Memorial located at Bicentennial Plaza and Senate Avenue, Indianapolis, dedicated in 2001 to commemorate the public safety officials who fall in the country, as well as in Washington on Memorial law enforcement law enforcement National, which honors law enforcement officers the country that died in duty and dedicated in 1991.

Breathalyzer

Indiana State Police is the first law enforcement agency in North America that has authorized the use of the famous "Drunk-o-meter", a chemical test to determine the level of alcohol poisoning, discovered in 1938 by Rolla N. Harger, MD, a professor at Indiana University. In 1954, an improved version of the device was followed and called Breathalyzer, which was discovered by Indiana State Police Captain Robert F. Borkenstein in collaboration with Dr. Harger. This successful device has since been used by police agencies to assess alcohol disorders in drunken driving abuses.
