Careers

Larson began his broadcasting career at the age of 16, at KTIL in his hometown of Tillamook, Oregon. He later became a broadcaster at KWAX based in Eugene. From 1977 to 1979, Larson attended the University of Oregon in Eugene, but stopped "after just one year working on radio and television". Larson served as news director for KATR in Eugene from 1977 to 1978 and KBDF from 1978 to 1979 with an internship on KEZI television and KPNW radio. He later became news director at KZEL in Eugene before moving to KJRB in Spokane, Washington in 1979 to become a reporter. While in Spokane, Larson took classes at Gonzaga University.

In 1980, Larson moved to Portland, Oregon, and KXL to become the first of two positions. Larson did the afternoon news. In 1983, he moved back to Eugene and became a reporter and eventually became the anchor for KVAL-TV. In 1985, Larson moved back to Portland, when he was hired by KPTV as a reporter for The 10 O'Clock News.

In 1988, he hosted a weekend talk show at KEX and transferred to KGW, where he would stay from 1989 to 1991.

In 1992, he helped create the KPTV news magazine program Northwest Reports , a one-hour weekly show that debuted in September of that year. Previously, since at least 1990, KPTV has aired a documentary or investigative story under the name "Northwest Reports with Lars Larson" as a segment in regular newscasts or sometimes as a one-time special, but not as a regular program. For a new weekly event, Larson is an executive producer and anchor live broadcast. It's a "60 Minutes" -style investigative show "but focuses on the Portland and Northwest areas. The program won a regional Emmy Award for a story that exposes the handling of customer's personal financial information careless by certain local banks.

The Oregonian report that Northwest Reports has a "decent rating" of "strong network competition", but not enough to attract enough advertising revenue. The program lasted more than four years, but was canceled in the fall of 1996, after which Larson resumed an anchor job at KPTV 10 O'Clock News . In his radio career, Larson moved back to KXL in 1997, this time being the talk show host of The Lars Larson Show, which aired from noon until 4pm.

After continuing to link news for KPTV until 1998, Larson left the station in November of that year, "after months of pressure from station management over his other role as a radioactive talk show host" at KXL. KPTV management views its radio talk-show role as a conflict of interest with its role as a newsreader. He then began work at KOIN TV, hosted the 'Buzz' program by the year 2000.

On January 31, 2000, The Lars Larson Show began airing on nine radio stations (currently 17) through "The Radio Northwest Network". In 2002, Larson was listed on Heavy Hundred Talkers Magazine '(the nation's most important radio host of 4,000) for the first time. In July 2003, Larson began filling for Talk Talk Talk Radio Network Michael Savage. On August 14, 2003, Larson was hired by Westwood One Radio Network to organize his own show for a national syndication. The Lars Larson Show officially debuted at Westwood One on September 1, 2003, with 105 affiliates and growing to 175 affiliates. On March 19th, 2009, Westwood One canceled the The Lars Larson Show . The national network event of Larson was relaunched on the newly formed Compass Media Networks on March 30, 2009.

On October 15, 2007, Larson requested that the Oregon State Bar Association investigate whether Oregon Gov. Ted Kulongoski lied about having knowledge of a 14-year-old girl's sexual abuse by former Oregon governor Neil Goldschmidt in the 1970s. Kulongoski, a lawyer, denied knowing anything about Goldschmidt having sex with a minor girl. In a story reported in The Oregonian in June 2004, however, former Goldschmidt speech writer Fred Leonhardt said he told Kulongoski about harassment as far back as 1994, 10 years before Goldschmidt publicly admitted it. Larson wants a state bar to determine whether Kulongoski is lying about the matter, and whether his bar permission should be suspended or revoked. Upon investigation, the blades state that both Kulongowski and Leonhardt are "credible" in their accounts on this issue, and close the investigation for wanting sufficient evidence to proceed. Larson appealed the decision, calling it contradictory; after appeals, the decision was enforced. The general advice to the boss wrote an email to Larson stating that "given the conflicting direct accounts of the parties and the absence of other evidence, I can not conclude that there is sufficient evidence to establish a reasonable belief that errors may have occurred", noting that the only evidence against Kulongowski is Leonhardt's testimony. He added that "it can not be denied that memories fade with time and that two people can get away from the same conversation with ideas that are very different from what is said." Larson has accused states of having "swept this issue under the carpet".

Controversial comments

In December 2005, Larson announced on-air that he was protesting over a traditional Christmas tree replacement placed in Portland's Pioneer Courthouse Square as a "Holiday Tree" by placing his own Christmas Cross on the square. The idea was reversed because of legal concerns for its flagship station.

On March 18, 2008, in the context of discussions about Jeremiah Wright, Barack Obama, and US policy towards Israel, Larson called former president Jimmy Carter an anti-Semitic on CNN's .

In December 2011, Larson invited the Portland mayor, Sam Adams, on a program to talk about a controversial city flag policy. The policy states the city flag will be lowered to half the staff in honor of anyone under the age of 18 who died as a result of the heated violence. Larson strongly disagreed with the reason that the city did not offer the same honor to the fallen soldier. Portland recently lowered the flag in honor of a teenage boy who died of gang violence. Larson questioned the messages the city sent with respect for someone he considered a threat. Sam Adams is scheduled on the show for two segments but only staying for one segment. The interview ended with a heat exchange between the two, and Adams hung up in Larson. Shortly after the interview, The Lars Larson Show released free ringtones and text for download via the SoundCloud Larson page.
