Lewis George Evangelidis (born July 11, 1961) is a sheriff from Worcester County, Massachusetts. Before becoming a sheriff Evangelidis was a member of the Republic at the Massachusetts House of Representatives.

Early life and education

Evangelidis was born in a three-story apartment in Worcester, Massachusetts to Judith C., and her husband, George L., a lawyer. Evangelidis was the first of three children. She has two sisters, Donna and Kim. Evangelidis grew up in Holden, Massachusetts where he attended a local public school. Evangelidis graduated from Wachusett Regional High School, and later attended the University of Massachusetts Amherst where he received a Bachelor of Economics degree in 1983. Evangelidis received a JD degree from Temple University Law School in 1987.

Career before politics

After graduating from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, Evangelidis moved to Berkeley, California where he worked to dig a trench at Lawrence Livermore Laboratories. After working at Berkeley, Evangelidis moved to Manhattan. While living in New York City Evangelidis works as a Commodity broker at the World Trade Center.

After working in New York, Evangelidis studied at Temple University Law School. When he was a student at Temple University, Evangelidis worked as a precursor to the LEAP program. Evangelides will go to a public high school in north Philadelphia and an additional class by teaching constitutional law to the students.

After graduating from Temple University in 1987, Evangelidis took and graduated, in the same week, a bar exam in Massachusetts and Florida. Evangelidis was accepted in the bars of the states of Florida and Massachusetts in 1988.

Evangelidis works as an assistant at Dade County office, Florida State Attorney, then run by State Attorney Janet Reno.

After working as Dade County State Attorney, Evangelidis worked as an assistant District Attorney in Suffolk County, Massachusetts.

After leaving the Suffolk County District Prosecutor's office, Evangelidis went on to work for the legal firm Worcester, Massachusetts, Pellegrini and Seeley.

Political career

Before his election to the House of Representatives Evangelidis was a member of the Holden Finance Committee.

Selection to the House of Representatives Massachusetts

In April 2002, Evangelidis announced that he would be a candidate for election in the first Worcester District at the Massachusetts House of Representatives. On September 17, 2002, in his first bid for elective office, Evangelidis won a Republican nomination for the Massachusetts Council of Representatives. Evangelidis won a nomination over former Holden, Massachusetts Selectman Mark S. Ferguson with 53 votes. In that main voice 2,568 is given to Mr Evangelidis vs. 2,515 for Mr. Ferguson.

On November 5, 2002, Evangelidis was elected to the Massachusetts Council of Representatives who defeated Democratic Representative David C. Bunker Jr. Evangelidis collected 10,646 votes for 7,854 for the Bunker. From January 2003 to January 2011. Evangelidis represents the 1st Worcester district of Worcester County, Massachusetts Holden, Westminster, Hubbardston, Oakham, Princeton, Rutland, and partly Sterling communities.

2009 Republican Leadership Contest Massachusetts House

In November 2008, Evangelidis announced that he would run for Home Minority Leader, the top Republican post in Massachusetts House of Representatives. In January 2009, leadership voting, Evangelidis lost the contest for Home Minority Leader, Bradley Jones, Jr., with two votes, 7 to 9.

2010 elections for the Worcester County Sheriff

On January 25, 2010 Evangelidis announced that he would run for Sheriff Worcester County. He was elected Sheriff in the Massachusetts state elections held November 2, 2010.

Port Authority of Massachusetts

In April 2015, Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker appointed Evangelidis to the Massachusetts Port Board (Massport), Baker swearing Evangelidis to the council on April 15, 2015.
