History

The Long Beach Police Department was established January 30, 1888, on the day of twenty-four, Horatio Davies was chosen as the city's first marshal city.

From January 1888 to January 1908, the city elected eight different people to serve as city marshal until the city council adopted the Ordinance Number 3, the New Series, removing the marshall office of the city and allowing the appointment of a police chief. Thomas W. Williams was the first Long Beach police chief.

The current Chief of Police is Robert Luna. Chief Luna was sworn in as the Long Beach police chief on November 11, 2014, replacing Jim McDonnell, who was elected the Los Angeles County Sheriff.

Division patrol

The Northern Division has about 110 police officers and dedicated civilian support staff. The building is currently built in 2004. The East Division is home to Long Beach Airport, California State University, Long Beach, East Anaheim Street Corridor, Long Beach City Center, Belmont Shore, 4th Street "Retro Row" and numerous historic and scenic parks and parks, including the Naples Islands, Belmont Heights, Rancho Los Alamitos Historic Ranch and Ranch, Bixby Park, Rose Garden, and Nature Parks and El Dorado Nature Center.
