Michael J Satz is an American lawyer and politician in the State of Florida, serving as the State Attorney for the 17th Florida court circuit, which includes Broward County. Originally from Pennsylvania, Satz is an alumnus of the School of Law at the University of Miami. After graduating, Satz became an assistant prosecutor in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and quickly developed a reputation as a hard court litigator.
In 1976, he was elected the State Attorney for the Seventh Session of the Trial of Florida in Broward County and he has been re-elected every four years since then.
As State Attorney Satz has responded to various crime issues at Broward County by instituting and extending a special prosecution unit focusing on cases such as sexual batteries and child abuse, domestic violence, public corruption and organized crime.

Awards and Recognitions
Mr. Satz, who early in his career recognized the needs of crime victims, instituted the Victim Advocacy Unit to provide counseling and assistance to the victims. For his efforts, he received the 2004 Presidential Award by Broward's Peace Rights Coalition.
In 2015, Mr. Satz received the Lifetime Achievement Award from B'nai B'rith Justice Unit # 5207 and the Broward County Crimes Commission. The Leadership Broward organization presents Mr. Satz the annual "Profiles in Leadership" award in 2006. And in 2005, the National Social Workers Association, Florida Division honored him with the award of the local Annual Selected Officer.
Mr. Satz was honored with the "Public Security Award" by Legal Aid Broward County in 2003 and, in the same year, the Board of Directors of the Broward County Bar Association presented it with a Government Lawyer Award.
In 2001, the Broward County Bar Association gave Mr. Satz awards Professionalism Futch Lynn in Practice. She also received a "Heart Award" by Broward County Children's Consortium in 2000. And she is proud to receive the Sharon Solomon Support Award in 1998 to commemorate late childhood advocate Sharon Solomon.
Mr. Satz has also been recognized by the Broward County Hispanic Bar Association, the Anti-Defamation League and the Sexual Assault Treatment Center in the Broward Area, a facility he helped to create. The University of Law Alumni Association presents it with an annual 'Alumni Achievement Award' and in 2015, he presented the "Humanitarian of the Year" award by The Florida Initiative for the Suicide Prevention organization.

Personal life
Mike is an avid snow skier who keeps fit with his regular fitness regimen. He is the founder and chairman of the "Up the River" voyage of the American Cancer Society, part of the annual "Jail and Bail" fundraiser at Broward.
