Careers

While in college and later in law school, Avenatti worked at The Research Group, a political opposition research and media company run by Rahm Emanuel (then White House Chief of Staff for President Barack Obama, and Chicago Mayor). Avenatti worked on more than 150 Democratic and Republican campaigns in 42 states while studying at George Washington University.

After law school, Avenatti worked at O'Melveny & amp; Myers in Los Angeles, California, with Daniel M. Petrocelli, who previously represented Ron Goldman's family in his case against O.J. Simpson. He helped Petrocelli on various legal issues, including singer Christina Aguilera's representation and litigation around the K-19 movie: The Widowmaker, and worked extensively for Don Henley and Glenn Frey of the Eagles musical group, including in a suit which was brought by former team-mate Don Felder against the group and Irving Azoff.

Avenatti then merged with Greene Broillet & amp; Wheeler, a Los Angeles boutique law firm. While there, he handled a number of high-profile cases, including a $ 10 million defamation case against Paris Hilton, resolved an idea-theft claim relating to The Apprentice and against producers Mark Burnett and Donald Trump, and a $ 40 million embezzlement suit involving KPMG.

In 2007, Avenatti formed the law firm of Eagan Avenatti, LLP (formerly known as Eagan O'Malley & Avenatti, LLP) with offices in Newport Beach, Los Angeles and San Francisco, California. He has appeared in 60 Minutes three times in connection with the case he is handling. Avenatti also served as a key adviser to a number of major historic cases, including a April 2017 $ 454 million verdict after a jury trial at the Federal Court in Los Angeles in fraud cases against Kimberly-Clark and Halyard Health, then reduced to $ 21.7 million appeal, a $ 80.5 million class action settlement against Service Corporation International, a $ 41 million jury decision on KPMG, and $ 39 million for a dangerous prosecution settlement.

In 2013 Avenatti established a company, Global Baristas, to buy Seattle-based Tully's Coffee from bankruptcy. Avenatti first formed a partnership with actor Patrick Dempsey, but Dempsey later retired from the venture after a brief legal battle that resulted in a settlement. Since 2015, Global Baristas has been mentioned in over 50 lawsuits in state and federal courts for contract breaches, unpaid bills, and unpaid taxes.

In 2015, Avenatti won the National Football League (NFL) after a jury in Dallas, Texas. He then pursued a class action lawsuit on behalf of fans who appeared for the Super Bowl XLV with tickets that did not fit the actual chair but a court in Texas refused to affirm the class.

In 2017, a Florida man named Gerald Tobin accused Avenatti of failing to pay him $ 28,700 for private investigative work. As a result, the Avenatti company was suddenly forced into bankruptcy. In various news reports, including work done by CNN, Tobin is found as an ex-convict with four decades of conviction and time of imprisonment and not a licensed investigator. Tobin's claim forced Avenatti into bankruptcy which caused Avenatti to cancel the deposition in an unrelated lawsuit a few days later, raising questions of collusion between Avenatti and Tobin. This issue is resolved when the couple signs the Non-Disclosure Agreement, and Avenatti pays Tobin $ 28,700.

In 2018, the Avenatti law firm was sentenced to $ 10 million in the US Bankruptcy Court. Avenatti also failed in a $ 440,000 verdict in taxes, penalties, and backlifts that he personally had to pay under other bankruptcy settlements. The Prosecutor General's Office confirmed in court that a motion asking for payment would be immediately filed against Avenatti. Eagan Avenatti has been in Chapter 11 bankruptcy process and, in December 2017, has agreed to pay $ 4.8 million in unpaid expenses to former partners, $ 2 million in tax returns, and $ 1 million to other creditors. In June 2018, the former partner filed a motion at the US Bankruptcy Court requesting lien for all and all legal costs that the Avenatti company may take, up to $ 10 million, from clients in 54 cases including Stormy Daniels.
