Histori

Pasco County was created on June 2, 1887, from the third southern part of Hernando County. The same law also created Citrus County from the northern third of Hernando County. County is named after Samuel Pasco, who was recently elected to the United States Senate.

The city of Dade was given the name of a temporary regional seat until a popular vote was held in 1889, during which time voters made Dade City a permanent seat of the district. As early as 1917, the western population of the area proposed establishing a separate county or joining Pinellas County, as Dade City was not concentrated in the area. This problem was finally resolved in the late 1970s with the construction of identical government centers in Dade City and New Port Richey.

The earliest cities are Anclote, Blanton, Dade City, Earnestville, Fort Dade (not to be confused with Fort Dade in Egmont Key), Macon (Trilby), Lacoochee, Saint Leo, and San Antonio. Orange is an important industry when the county is formed, although the decline occurred after freezing in 1895. Several large sawmills were operating in the area in the early 20th century. During the 1920s Florida boom, New Port Richey became the winter house of the mute screen of Thomas Meighan and golfer Gene Sarazen; Meighan tries to bring other Hollywood figures to the city. The district has experienced significant population growth since the 1960s. Growth begins along the Gulf coast but now occurs most rapidly in the northern area of Tampa.

Government and politics

Although the county seat is in Dade City, duplicate local government offices and court facilities are also located in the New Port Richey area on the western side of the county.

Politically, the county has been a swing area for the last quarter century. However, three of the last four elections have been very inclined to support the Republicans in the presidential election, with the exception of 2008. Although the GOP has the most votes in 2008, it is much smaller than the previous 2004 election or the next 2012 and 2016 elections.
