Personal life
Holley is a descendant of William Bradford, one of the signatories of the Compact Mayflower. He married a South Korean woman, with whom he had three sons; the oldest born in 1988. He decided to become a naturalist as a South Korean citizen in 1997, which would require him to renounce US citizenship. He described this as a difficult decision, especially since South Korea is not a member of the US Visa Release Program; a US consular official tried to prevent him from releasing citizenship, threatening that he might not be able to get a visa to return to his native country, but Holley decided to do it in the end. A notification confirming that the loss of US citizenship was published in the Federal Register in February 1998. He is a close friend of Lee Joon-gi, who will become famous in the mid-2000s as a film actor.
