Plot

High-power divorce lawyers Audrey Woods (Julianne Moore) and Daniel Rafferty (Pierce Brosnan) have seen the wrong love in many scenarios - so how good are their chances? As the top two divorce lawyers in New York, Audrey and Daniel are studies in contradictions. He practiced the law strictly by the book; he seems to be winning in his pants chair, or with a "cheap play," as Audrey said in one scene.

Soon the two lawyers were pitted against each other in some famous divorce cases, including the cruel public split between rock star Thorne Jamison (Michael Sheen) and his wife, Serena (Parker Posey). This settlement depends on the Irish castle, CaisleÃÆ'¡n Cloiche, or "Rock Castle," which every couple desires. Audrey and Daniel travel to Ireland to pursue deposition, and both live in the castle; although Audrey, at least, is reluctant to acknowledge their interest, they find themselves attending an Irish romantic festival together. After a night of wild celebrations, they wake up the next morning to find that they are married. Audrey was surprised, though Daniel took their clear marriage with his pace.

The couple returned to New York and found their wedding news printed on Page 6 of the New York Post the next day. Audrey suggests that the two retain the marital resemblance for their careers, and Daniel moves into Audrey's living room. Though in the courtroom they continue to fight the high-profile divorce case of Jamison with the spirit they always show, at home they settled in a common household life. While taking out the trash one day, Daniel accidentally discovers some sensitive information about Audrey's client, Thorne Jamison, whom he disclosed in court the next day. Audrey felt betrayed and asked for a divorce, which Daniel agreed to give her, quoting her love for her.

Furthermore, their famous clients each return to the castle in Ireland, although they are not allowed to be there pending the distribution of assets. Judge Abramovitz (Nora Dunn) sends their respective counselors to Ireland to tell them about it, but on arrival they discover that the celebrity couple has reunited on their wedding anniversary. Audrey and Daniel later learned that the "priest" who performed their wedding ceremony was actually Jamison's butler, and the "marriage" he was leading at the festival was just a romantic celebration.

Daniel soon returns to New York, alone, but quickly audrey on his heels, as he realizes that he has fallen in love with her. Facing him at a grocery store under Daniel's Chinatown office, Audrey asks Daniel if he is willing to fight to save their relationship. In the last romantic scene, the couple married in a private ceremony in Judge Abramovitz's room, with Audrey's mother as a sole witness.
