Michael Rains is a California criminal defense attorney known for representing police alleged offenses, including the shooting of BART Police against Oscar Grant and a successful defense against Oakland Riders. Rains also won a free verdict from Corcoran 8, a prison guard accused of fighting between inmates. He was previously represented by Barry Bonds baseball player who was finally freed by the 9th Circuit Appeals Court in connection with a false allegation of allegations.
Rains is a California State University, a Long Beach graduate serving in the Vietnam War with US Marines. Working as a former Santa Monica police officer, he won a scholarship to the Western Gold University Law School, and became a member of the California bar in 1979. His law firm, Rains Lucia Stern, has contracts with over 250 public safety association associations across the State California.
While representing Bonds, Rains brought a lawsuit against the San Francisco Chronicle for publishing a leaked grand jury testimony, but dropped a lawsuit when threatened with the SLAPP counter-claims.
