Elliott Hamilton Jones (July 18, 1870 - October 11, 1951) is an American football and coach. He served as the first head coach of football at Vanderbilt University. Jones played and coached with Vanderbilt Commodores as team captain for three seasons from 1890 to 1892, setting an 8-5 record.
In 1921, Jones worked as a lawyer in law in Kansas City, Missouri.

Vanderbilt played his first football match in 1890 at Nashville Athletic Park, against Nashville (Peabody). Vanderbilt won 40-0. Jones, captain and fullback of the 1890 football team Vanderbilt Commodores, recalled the meeting that resulted in the match. William Lofland Dudley called for a meeting of the Athletics Association, after Peabody issued a challenge to play a contest on Thanksgiving Day. He feels the challenge is serious; that the pride of the university is at stake. In front of about 150 students at the gymnasium, Dudley explains that if the challenge is met, a new athletic era will be created with the game of football. From his legal office in Kansas City many years later Jones recalled: "There is a general discussion about the whole situation.Difficulty, especially short time for preparation, and the fact that regular football has never been played in Vanderbilt at all, Many think that fair to ourselves for endangering a contest under such circumstances.We know that Peabody Normal has been playing intramural football for several years.However, a notable note for discussion is that we never take anything off of Peabody Normal and should not be done now, finally, Estes PM (Pat), then from St. Louis, made a move to declare that the challenge was accepted and that EH Jones was authorized and directed to organize and captain the team for an opportunity The movement was unanimously brought.

Dudley in connection with early football at Vanderbilt Since his college days his photograph has admired my office wall, and when asked by whoever the man is, I always reply, 'The best of my friends and every other student at Vanderbilt, in my college days.'He went with the team on every trip, and watched us like a father.'He is our inspiration and also our guardian. He is our true and faithful friend, under any and all circumstances, in difficulty also in prosperity. I never knew a friend who was more fun and more sincere. I appreciate his friendship memory above all in my college experience. "
