Careers

World War II

Beginning in July 1942, Davis served at the United States Department of War Headquarters until December 1945. He then served in South America on behalf of the Intelligence Counter Corps. In 1946, Davis moved to Summerville, Georgia, and returned to law practice.

Political career

On 27 December 1950, Davis became general counsel of the Rome Circuit and remained in that position until January 1, 1953. Two years later, he was elected judge of the Judicial Lookout Mountain Session, serving from 1 January 1955, until his resignation. on December 31, 1960.

Time in Congress

In 1960, Davis won the election to the 87th Congress as a Democrat representing the 7th congress district in Georgia. He won re-election to six additional terms in the body until losing re-election bid in 1974 in the main Democratic activist that year to conservative activist Larry McDonald. At the time of his loss, Davis had a drink problem. Davis served as US Representative from January 3, 1961 to January 3, 1975.

The loss of Davis to McDonald in 1974 was largely due to a lack of perceptions of the concept of school bushing, in which students were transported to schools outside their district to facilitate desegregation. Davis, who lives in the countryside of his district, does not take into account the rising political force in the northwest suburbs of Atlanta. The rapidly growing community of rooms in Cobb County is filled with people who fled the urban mandatory desegregation of Atlanta; it's primarily a constituency that supports McDonald's and its platforms against schools among busses..

Next career and death

Davis returns to law practice and lives in St. Louis. Simons Island, Georgia, at the time of his death on October 3, 1992.
