Lloyd Dee George (born February 22, 1930) is a US District Court Senior Senior District Court of the United States for the District of Nevada.

Education and career

Born in Montpelier, Idaho, George grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada, and was the classroom leader of the 1948 Las Vegas High School class. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Brigham Young University in 1955 and, after serving in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1958, received Juris Doctor from the University of California, Berkeley, Boalt Hall School of Law in 1961. He was in private practice in Las Vegas from 1961 to 1974, as well as peace justice for Clark County, Nevada from 1962 to 1969. He was a US Bankruptcy Judge for the Nevada District from 1974 to 1984, serving on the Ninth Circuit. Panel of Bankruptcy United States of America from 1980 to 1984.

Federal courts service

On April 18, 1984, George was nominated by President Ronald Reagan to a seat in US District Court for the Nevada District left by Judge Roger D. Foley. George was confirmed by the United States Senate on 30 April 1984, and received his commission on May 3, 1984. He served as Chief Judge from 1992 to 1997, and assumed a senior status on December 1, 1997.

Religion and honor

George is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He serves as a missionary in Wisconsin and Illinois for the Church. The Lloyd D. George Courthouse Federal in Las Vegas, Nevada is named in his honor and the State Bar of Nevada's Lloyd D. George Professionalism Award and William S. Boyd School of Law Judge Judge Lloyd George Bankruptcy Moot Court Competition.
