Elizabeth Ann Copeland (born June 1, 1964) is a Texas lawyer in private practice and a candidate for a US Tax Court Judge.

Biography

Copeland was born on June 1, 1964, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He received his Bachelor of Business Administration, cum laude, in 1986 from the University of Texas at Austin. Before studying in law school, he worked at Ernst & amp; Whinney (now EY), from 1986 to 1989. Copeland received a Juris Doctor in 1992 from the University of Texas School of Law. While studying in law school, he served as a legal officer for Judge Eugene Cook of the Texas Supreme Court. He began his career as a lawyer adviser to Judge Mary Ann Cohen of the United States Tax Court, from 1992 to 1993. From 1993 to 2012, he practiced law with the Oppenheimer, Blend, Harrison & amp; Tate, Inc., became a shareholder in 2000. Since 2012, he has been practicing law with the firm Strasburger & amp; Price, LLP, in San Antonio, Texas. He handles all matters related to federal income tax, including tax planning and controversy, and he also has experience in dealing with Internal Revenue Service at administrative appeals and in litigation.

Recognition and certification

Copeland has been certified in the tax law of the Texas Board of Legal Specialization since 2002. Tax Analysts named him as a Tax Person of 2012 in the national edition of the Tax Records . He serves as chairman of the Texas State Tax Section Bar from 2013 to 2014 and is a Certified Public Accountant.

Failure to fail to tax court under Obama

On May 4, 2015, President Obama nominated Copeland to serve as a US Tax Court Judge, to a seat left by Judge Diane Kroupa, who retired on June 16, 2014. He received a hearing before the United States Senate Committee on Finance on January 29, 2016 On April 18, 2016, his candidacy was reportedly out of the committee by a 26-0 vote. His candidacy ends on January 3, 2017, with the end of the 114th Congress.

Rename to tax court based on Trump

On August 3, 2017, President Trump nominated Copeland to become US Tax Court Judge, to the seat left by Judge James Halpern, who retired on October 16, 2015. His nomination is currently pending before the Senate Finance Committee.
