Gurbir Grewal (born June 23, 1973) is the Attorney General of sixty-one New Jersey States. Appointed by New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy, he was confirmed by the New Jersey Senate on January 16, 2018. He is the first Sikh-American Attorney General in the history of the United States.
Grewal is a former DA County district prosecutor in New Jersey, originally designated in 2016; he was the first American Sikh to be named the county attorney in the United States.

Early life and career
Grewal is the son of Indian immigrants to the United States. She grew up in Fairfield Township, Essex County, New Jersey and graduated from West Essex High School. Grewal completed her bachelor's degree from Georgetown University Foreign Service College. She attended William & amp; Mary Law School and graduated in 1999.
He has served as president of the Association of South Asian Bar New York and a member of the Asia Pacific Association of Attorneys of the United States.

Careers at law enforcement
Before becoming a Bergen County law enforcement officer, Gurbir Grewal served as head of the Economic Crime Unit at the US Attorney's Office in New Jersey under former federal prosecutor Paul Fishman. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie nominated Grewal to head the Bergen District Attorney's office in 2013, but Grewal was never scheduled for a later Senate confirmation hearing. Grewal was confirmed by the State Senate when intercepted by Christie for the second time in January 2016 as a prosecutor, and settled in a role in November 2016. In this capacity, Grewal concentrated on fighting the opioid epidemic and white-collar crime, and strengthening ties between police and community.
In July 2017, when the Bergen district attorney, Grewal ordered Mahwah, the New Jersey police department to not impose a ban on non-New Jersey residents using Mahwah park, expressed concern that the ban could lead to an anti-Semitic profile against Orthodox Jews. visiting from neighboring Rockland County, New York.
Personal life
Gurbir Grewal is a resident of Glen Rock, New Jersey, in Bergen County. Grewal is the father of three children, and his wife is Amrit. He is also fluent in Punjabi and Hindi.
